Welcome from Our Principal

Lisa Gillespie, Principal

Welcome! My name is Lisa Gillespie, and I am the very proud principal of St. Joseph School. I invite you to explore this website to see all that our wonderful school has to offer.

Academic excellence, faith formation, and technology-based learning create the foundation for the 21st century learner at St. Joseph School. For over fifty years, St. Joseph School has maintained an outstanding academic program rooted in gospel values and traditions. Our school provides a unique environment where students in Kindergarten through 8th Grade can grow to understand the roots of their faith while at the same time receiving an outstanding academic education.

St. Joseph School is accredited by AdvancEd, is recognized by the Diocese of Paterson as a Star School, and in 2012 was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. St. Joseph School is committed to providing students with the knowledge, problem-solving skills, and capabilities to address the many challenges of this ever-changing world. State-of-the-art instructional technology, the skilled delivery of a rigorous curriculum, and the continued professional development of an incredibly dedicated faculty and staff all contribute to achieving this goal.

Academic achievement and motivation will continue to be stimulated by our newly enhanced computer lab, the latest SMART Board™ instructional technology in every classroom, and sixty iPad resources to be used in classrooms for research, reinforcement of skills, and enrichment.  The STEM curriculum will continue in the upcoming year for all students to further advance STEM literacy and promote awareness of STEM-related careers to students.

We flourish as a school and as a community because of the loving spirit and generous support of our parents in complementing our school’s academic programs. The Home School Association provides strong support for students, faculty, program enrichment, and fundraising. School policy and budgetary considerations are guided through the active involvement of the Education Council. The partnership between home and school helps to create an atmosphere where parents play a vital role in many activities in the school. In the effort to help meet the needs of parents whose children require care after the school day ends, St. Joseph School launched our extended care program in September of 2015, and we are very happy to offer this program to our families again this school year.

Religious values, strong academics, community service, sports, and extracurricular activities are hallmarks of the educational program at St. Joseph School. Dedicated staff and supportive parents create a nurturing and challenging learning community that provides our students with spiritual growth and academic success.
