Welcome to the Art Room!

Happy Spring at SJS!
We wrapped up our Asian Art unit beautifully!  The students made lovely Japanese watercolors and tempera paintings of Hokusai's Great Wave Over Mt. Fuji and more...  You'll love getting these home in their 2nd semester portfolio.
Look out for a 5th Grade Auction piece inspired by their work...!
The Lower grades are working on beautiful Easter themed Stained Glass window projects, and learning about Chagall.
We've studied Vermeer's "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" and the lower grades did a nice color theory project with this piece.
This Dutch Artist provided a perfect segue from Japanese art, as we learned of the cultural influences of each other in
Art History.
The upper grades are working on portraiture and the human face.
More in store...

After school Arts enrichment program:
On Wednesdays, from 2:20 - 3:30 I am offering special classes for 5 or 6 week sessions.
We finished our 2nd Clay class just before Christmas break, where we created Earthenware Angel mantle pieces and Gingerbread ornaments.  Prior to Thanksgiving our "Mudpuppies" made ceramic Jack-o-lanterns for tea light candles, 'mudpuppies,' and beautiful Turkey candelabras for the Thanksgiving Day table!  we glaze and I kiln fire all of our pieces, so they will last a lifetime and beyond...
Soon I will distribute information for an upcoming Cartooning Class...!
